Optimal Control Strategy for Ship Cabin’s Active Chilled Beam System Using Improved Multi-Objective Salp Swarm Algorithm

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are the second largest energy consumers on cruise ships after propulsion system. As a kind of HVAC system, active chilled beam (ACB) have been widely used for cabin service due to their performance efficiency good thermal comfort. However, conventional control strategies ships’ ACB not intelligent enough cannot balance consumption comfort during voyages ships. This study developed an optimal strategy cabins’ systems. First, simulation environment considering dynamic conditions is established in TRNSYS. Second, artificial neural network model utilized predict while predicted percentage dissatisfied adopted represent discomfort. Third, improved multi-objective salp swarm algorithm proposed dynamically minimize both A TRNSYS–MATLAB co-simulation testbed simulate cabins served by system small ship navigating from Hong Kong Shanghai validation tests comparison study. Compared strategies, can achieve maximum savings 12% maintaining mean vote index less than 0.5, meeting requirements set ASHRAE.
